Privacy policy
Effective October 10, 2026. Folkly is a Then Media inc. project. Contact noah@then.tv for privacy questions or requests.
Information you provide
Subscriptions collect your email address, consent record and subscription status for story updates. Contact forms collect your name, email, reason for contacting us, message and contributor interest so we can respond. Do not send sensitive personal information in these forms. Contacting us does not subscribe you to the newsletter.
How information is stored and used
Subscriber and contact records are stored in private Vercel Blob storage. Vercel hosts the site and processes operational request information to deliver and secure it. Supabase provides owner authentication and private editorial storage. Resend is the configured newsletter delivery provider; sending depends on activation and verified sender settings. These providers process information for the relevant services. Some credited images are delivered through Wikimedia image servers, which receive requests needed to display them. External source and music links lead to sites with their own privacy practices. We do not provide subscriber or contact records to Google Analytics or advertising tags.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
Essential secure, HttpOnly sign-in cookies support the private owner area. If the owner chooses Keep me signed in, a renewal cookie remembers that browser for up to 30 days between visits, subject to account and session revocation. Sign out clears the remembered sign-in. A local browser preference stores your optional-cookie decision for up to 180 days. Google Analytics (GA4) loads only if you allow analytics; it measures visits and interactions and may use identifiers and cookies. URL query strings and fragments are excluded from our initial page-view configuration. Analytics is not loaded in the owner panel. We disable Google signals and advertising personalization signals in the site's analytics configuration.
Advertising scripts are currently blocked pending certified consent-provider setup. If Google advertising is activated, Google and other disclosed advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites, subject to your applicable choices. This policy and the consent interface must be updated before activation. See how Google uses information from partner sites and Google's advertising choices.
Your choices
Use Privacy settings on any public page to reject optional cookies or change analytics consent. Rejecting keeps the journal available. Withdrawal reloads the page to stop the site's analytics tag and attempts to clear accessible analytics cookies; it cannot erase data already processed by Google. This site keeps advertising disabled, including when a Global Privacy Control signal is present. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link when sending is enabled. You may request access, correction or deletion of information you supplied by emailing the address above; we may verify the request before disclosing records.
Retention and protection
Subscriber records remain while the subscription is active. Minimal suppression information may be retained to honor unsubscribe requests. Contact and editorial records are kept while needed for their purpose, subject to deletion requests and legitimate security or legal needs. An automatic deletion schedule is not currently implemented. We restrict access to private records, but no online system is guaranteed secure. Providers may process information outside your country.
Owner editor chat
The private owner workspace stores article ideas and editor conversations in private Vercel Blob storage. When editor chat is enabled and used, the owner's message and limited recent conversation history are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply. Public reader form submissions are not included in these conversations automatically.
Children and changes
The journal is for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if a child has supplied information. We will update this page when our practices change and request new optional-cookie choices when the consent policy changes.
